About

Hello, I’m Adelie. I suppose you’ve traveled to this page to learn a little more about my blog, and for that, I am genuinely grateful. Allow me to introduce myself!

This may be only my philosophy, but I think the majority of us “get it wrong” when we tell people who we are. My first impulse is to tell you I live in Michigan, where I grew up and earned my bachelor’s in Clinical Psychology. I’m somewhere between twenty and thirty years old, married to my high school sweetheart, and I’m currently employed as an administrative assistant. As you can tell, I’m a pretty exciting person.

So that’s what I consider the incorrect characterization of myself, or anyone for that matter. Who we are isn’t defined by where we live, our age, occupation, or any other category for that matter. I believe that it is a combination of our beliefs, desires, and daily actions that illustrate who we are. So let me better introduce myself!

Whenever I’m not working, I’m either enjoying my time reading, enjoying the outdoors (often with my husband and our dogs), or writing. While I have several passions in life, my deepest passion is writing. I never go a single day, and rarely an hour without writing, or at the very least, thinking about writing. I have already written my first book, which I am in the process of editing and revising (with sequels continuously composing themselves in my head).  My dream is to have these books published and read across the globe and adapted into film.  While my writing is for entertainment, its deeper purpose is to inspire and change the world (if even in the tiniest way). My purpose is to help create a more peaceful and loving life for all creatures, and I strive to honor my purpose daily.

I have an honest, open, and quite sensitive heart, full of aspirations that I can inspire others to pursue their passions. Although I was taught to always keep my guard up, I trust in the goodness of others and believe in the possibility of a peaceful world. My theory is that when a person’s actions are in accordance with his or her genuine heart, a wonderful transformation happens not only in the person’s life but in all of the other lives that he or she touches.  In the words of John Donne, “No man is an island.”

I’m sure some people think I’m unrealistic. By their personal standards I probably am. Ultimately, when it comes down to it, we all create our own realities. We choose how we interpret everything, both outside of ourselves and inside as well. Whether we admit it or not, we also decide how to respond to it all.

So, while I’m in the process of polishing my book (which my husband and I affectionately refer to as “my baby”),  I’ve created this blog as a more immediate creative outlet, in which I hope  to encourage others to live from their passions. A quote that really embodies my mission with Artfully Aspiring is attributed to a very inspiring man, Howard Thurman:

“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

It is through writing that I feel most alive, and it is through writing that I aspire to help others live their passions. Thank you for allowing me to tell you a little more about myself, and I sincerely look forward to learning more about you along the way.

With profound gratitude,

     Adelie

  3. Now how is it that I’ve not seen THIS amazing About page from you? And am I so senile (already?) that I could have sworn I clicked Follow on your blog from the day our paths first crossed. Well, time to right that really big wrong. I just Love your blog. Your background image is subtly lovely too! ps. Do you get told you look like Gwyneth Paltrow quite a bit?

    • You never fail to make me laugh or blush! Thank you for stopping by my page, and I’m relieved you’ve finally redeemed yourself. I couldn’t hide my dismay much longer 😀
I kid. I’m just honored that you even reply to my comments! I admire your natural talent to write the most intriguing and hilarious content.
Thanks for the compliment on my background image. It’s a distorted picture of a poinsettia I received at Christmas time. I honestly had nothing else to take a picture of, so I thought, “hmm, this should work!”
p.s. I’ve never been told I look like Gweneth, which is quite a compliment, and I thank you! Though, if you saw the two of us in person, you would be quite disappointed I believe, as she is 5’9″ and I’m 5’2″!
And I must say I love your glamour shots. You are truly gorgeous inside and out.

p.s.s. Were you really on “the Price is Right?” :O

      Like

      • Thank you, my friend. For everything. And 5ft 2 is so adorable. Along with me getting hugely developed in the chest arena (I think you read that post, right?) I also grew to my current 5ft 6 height in FOURTH GRADE. What I wouldn’t have given to be a petite little thing. And do NOT get me started on my shoe size. It really almost caused me to cancel my bowling birthday party. And no, I wasn’t on Price is Right, darn it! But when I was little, my mother WAS on “Let’s Make a Deal.” You’re too young to know but Monty Hall was the host and he smacked everyone on the lips and my mother turned her head away at the last second and then all she won was really ugly rod-iron patio furniture. lol Now, what glamour shots are we talking about, pray tell??

        • I understand where you’re coming from, but let me tell you that while I’m extremely grateful for the healthy body I’ve been given, being 5’2″ isn’t all fun and games 🙂 When I worked in retail a few years back, a few customers asked me if I was even old enough to be working there. They thought I was fourteen. Yeah, I suppose it’s better than them thinking sixty, but I’ve found people don’t tend to take me seriously in person. Ugh, yesterday, I had a client come in for a meeting, with whom I’ve spoke on the phone several times, and when I went up to meet him, he just stared at me. I tried to shake his hand, but he was like “You’re not (insert my real name here).” All I could say was, “Yes, that’s me.” He still didn’t seem to believe me. Whenever I take clients to meet my coworkers (who are in their upper thirties) those clients tend to disregard me completely and seemingly forget my presence. The thing is I’ve always related more with people who are older than me than my peers. So, to be dismissed as naive and unprofessional because I appear younger can be quite frustrating. It just isn’t so great sometimes. 🙂
I can imagine that maturing early had it’s own struggles. And though you were the kind of person I envied growing up (I still don’t have much happening in the chest department 😛 ) I’m sorry if you ever felt self-conscious. But gosh, you’re so beautiful and numbers (no matter shoe size, height, weight, or age) are insignificant.
Darn. I was really hoping you were on Price is Right. I was going to make it my mission to find that footage! My father always wanted to be on it. That is, until Drew Carey took over. Not that he’s bad or anything, but it’s just not the same without Bob! That is a delightful story about your mother though! She sounds kind of fiesty…like someone else I know 😉
Ok the glamor shots. I’m telling you, a couple of weeks I saw them. I know I did, when I was trolling around your site 😀 But of course, they’re nowhere to be found. But really, I believe there were three of them, one being your icon that you have right now, and the others being very similar. I just remember because I remember thinking “Wow, she’s beautiful,” and “God, I wish I could get my hair to have that much volume!” No matter how deep I try to dig on your blog, I can’t find them. Maybe they had something to do with the whole gravatar thing. I don’t know. But I swear I saw them.
          And they were fabulous!

  11. Adelie,

Rochelle and I are always commenting on how much we enjoy your “lyrical” approach to writing, After asking her what she thought of this idea I have, she said, “Hey, go for it!”

So, I have an assignment for you, almost a challenge.

I’m going to tell you a story first. The story is about a guy and a girl who meet in Israel. She lives there, he lives in America. They have their first date at the oasis called En Gedi. They fall in love. Even though they are worlds apart and the relationship doesn’t work out, they will always have fond memories of each other and “will always have En Gedi.” The story is told from the boy’s heartbroken point of view.

Now, you will take the story and write it as a song, like a movie’s title song. “En Gedi” will be the title of the movie and the song’s title, too.

But don’t retell the story, tell the FEELINGS. This is done in ALL movie title songs. Think of “There’s Got To Be A Morning After” from The Poseidon Adventure. Or “You Know My name” from Casino Royale. Got it? You may use elements of the story, but it’s to convey the emotions.

    BUT, THERE’S MORE —

I’m sending you a drop box link of a Hebrew song recording called En Gedi. It is in Hebrew, yes, but don’t let that throw you. Just write the lyrics of your song to the tune of the melody.

I think you can do this! The tune is beautiful and very “european” sounding, hopefully you will be inspired.

So … here’s the link. You have a week. Go for it!

Oh, and send it to my blog in the comments section.

      • Like I said, don’t let it throw you. The culture is not what you’re writing about. You’re writing about a boy and a girl and a relationship that didn’t work out and became a fond memory. Think of the story like the photo prompt. It’s what you perceive, not what you see.

All the best! I’m curious myself. 😀

This may come as a surprise to you, but I actually believe with all my heart the passion that emenates from you in relation to your writing dreams. Why shouldn’t You have a book published and made into a film? Others have done it so why are you any different? Believe me, I would be over the moon when, not if, but when something miraculous happens with your work.

Trust, Faith, Hope and Belief is all you need: And this girl here wholly believes in your capabilities.

  13. I simply see something beautiful that shines through your words and thus shines from within you. Sometimes people ‘touch’ us in a way which is undiscerned, but it’s there, and you do that. And I absolutely believe that you can most definitely make a change in peoples lives by what it is you write now and indeed will write in the future. You know what tough times are and if you ever decide to write about those things too, along with the ‘way’ you write – you will make a difference. And thank you for the big hug – that warms my heart and makes me smile 🙂 What I love about our friendship is that we lift each other up: we believe in each others capabilities: And the best part – there is no petty jealousy, only a desire to help on our writing and individual journeys. I know you are going through a hard time right now, but you keep picking yourself up and dusting yourself down and continuing – like I do. Have faith little one, as I do, and keep that focused eye on your goals and dreams – nothings impossible! Much ❤ Victoria 🙂
